Winter and Spring Break Camps
A week of fun and educational activities

A different theme every day!

Our Winter and Spring Break Camps run for a full week. Activities are based on a daily theme, alternating between arts (drama, music, visual & applied art) and science (engineering, robotics, computer programming).

The schedule of activities is available two weeks before each camp. Activities from our Winter and Spring Break camps last year are below. (click to learn more)

Arts

Playing a variety of fun improv games, learners spend the morning developing their performance skills. They get to be creative by becoming an assortment of animals and characters, while also learning to be attentive and patiently wait for their cue. The afternoon is spent working in small groups to write and perform a skit, collaboratively producing a unique dramatic work.

Learners are introduced to the world of fashion by analyzing examples from professional designers. They apply what they have learned by designing individual outfits, using a variety of physical and digital fashion creation tools. In the second half of the day, they work in groups to create an outfit and perform a mini fashion show.

Learners make music in many forms throughout the day. Mornings focused on rhythm and percussion transition into afternoons composing unique digital songs. Throughout the day, learners can jam together and create improvised musical pieces.

Learners can find their favorite medium by working with different materials to create their own sculptures and dioramas. By using physical materials like clay as well as digital sculpting softwares, they experience a wide range of the possibilities offered by this art form. The sculptures are then documented in a series of exercises about creative exhibition.

In the first part of the day, learners work through classic origami projects, developing their folding skills to make ornate paper creations. In the second part of the day, learners are introduced to advanced board games. These are fun ways to develop their strategic thinking skills, as they learn to plan ahead and make smart choices that build towards future moves. These games also provide excellent opportunities to develop social skills.

Science

Learn about physics fundamentals, like why triangles are the strongest shapes, and go further with simulations that demonstrate the science behind arches and suspension bridges. Apply your knowledge in epic competitions with other learners to see who can build the tallest towers and longest bridges – then design siege engines to shoot them apart! A thrilling day filled with enriching engineering lessons.

Power up your creations and race unique vehicles! Learn about the science behind electric motors and find creative ways to work with propellers, gears, pullies and wheels. Each learner gets to solder their own circuits and work with Explorations’ extensive tool set to build their own motorized vehicle.

From dancing robot dogs to battling sumo bots, Explorations is known for offering exceptional EV3 Robotics workshops. In this one-day workshop series, Learners build and code and functional robot that will compete in either a dance competition or a wrestling match.

Let your imagination take flight with these Explorations workshops. Create an assortment of flying machines throughout the day, testing the limits and abilities of air pressure.

Daily Schedule

Morning Drop-Off is 8:30-9:00 AM, at the Learning Lab (6591 Somerled).

Activities are led by an educator specialized in the day’s theme. The program combines theoretical instruction with hands-on creation, challenging students to apply what they have learned in imaginative ways.

There is a mid-morning break for snacks and physical activity. After lunch, we visit a nearby park for fun and exercise before returning to the Learning Lab.

Afternoon Pickup is 3:30-4:00 PM.

Dates: 2025
