Video Game Design with Explorations
Branching Narratives with Amal Unbound - Day 1
Below you can find the games made by the Grade 6 class on March 27th in the Explorations Video Game Design workshop.
The students first drafted unique narratives to fit with their class novel, Amal Unbound. Then they created their characters, and programmed their games to tell a story with options for a player to make choices.
The students wrote all the dialogue for their characters, and they developed the setting from a template. They also learned about the logical processes that enable a game to keep track of player’s progress, following the player’s choices to different possible conclusions.
This was a challenging workshop that combined computer programming, creative visual arts, and very advanced literature structures. They had limited time for each part, so their projects are a great achievement! The workshop ended with an ethics lesson about the importance of making good choices in life.
This workshop was completed with software called RPG Maker MV. You can play the students’ games by clicking on the link with their names.
Students who are interested in continuing to learn about Video Game Design can sign up for Explorations’ courses on Sunday afternoons. Video Game Design is also offered during our epic camp programs, so be sure to check out our offerings for summer.
