Camp in July - Exceptional Variety, plus the Freedom to Choose!
These two-week sessions are designed to empower young creators! To begin, campers learn how to make a wide variety of projects. Each day of the first week, campers try different workshops in Arts and Technology. Then in the second week, they choose their favorite activities to pursue, and develop two major projects based on their interests.
Throughout the entire session, there are periods every day for social time and physical activity, including our most popular sports and outdoor adventures in local nature areas.

Each group of Explorers is approximately 12 campers, who are supervised by 2 Counsellors in addition to the Instructors for each Activity. The Counsellors provide consistency and comfort for the campers, as friendly helpers who are there every day for the whole session.
The Counsellors provide extra assistance during the activities, so that campers can go at their own pace. The Counsellors also help campers get to know each other during the break periods, so they can create meaningful friendships. The combination of Instructors and Counsellors provides an average 4-to-1 ratio of campers-to-supervisors, ensuring that Explorations is a physically and socially safe space for your child.

Fun, Creativity, and Physical Activity
The Explorer’s day is divided into separate activity periods, punctuated by breaks for recreation and social time. Each day includes hands-on projects with both Arts and Tech activities, and at least one full period of physical activity (an organized sport like Fencing, or an outdoors adventure in a local nature area).
The Explorers often take fun movement breaks during their activites – for example, taking a pause from building robots to get up and dance like robots! This keeps them active throughout the entire day, developing their bodies as well as their minds.
During lunch, Explorers take a trip to Trenholme Park, and on occasion they escape the heat by visiting a nearby splash pad.

Camp in June and August
In June and August, we offer smaller one-week sessions of summer activities for ages 7+ at the Learning Lab (6591 Somerled).
Our week of Early Camp provides unique workshops on each day, offering a variety of our most popular Arts & Technology activities:
- June 29: Video Game Design
- June 30: Animation
- July 1: Photography & Digital Music Composition
- July 2: Improv Theatre & Sketch Comedy
- July 3: Moviemaking
The August sessions focus on specific topics, allowing campers to explore one subject in depth and create impressive projects.
These projects are multidisciplinary, and each day’s lessons focus on different aspects of the project. For example, a Video Game project involves designing characters and their story (language arts), as well as creating the characters’ worlds (visual arts), in addition to coding the logical processes for the game (technology).
All of these projects include great freedom of choice: a camper could make a video game that is about anything, from meeting magical faeries, to finding a lost cat, to slaying an epic dragon!
Campers take breaks from their projects for physical activity and social time, including daily trips to local parks (Benny and Confederation).

Do the Explorers have time outside during the day?
The Explorers are outside for a minimum of two hours per day, weather permitting. Some of the activities, such as Forest School, will take place mostly outside (La Falaise Saint-Jacques), so the campers have the chance to enjoy the summer sunshine! Please remember to pack a sun hat, water bottle and sunscreen (and insect repellent if needed), as well as comfortable walking or running shoes.
Do you provide food for lunch or snacks?
No – to avoid any possibility of allergic reactions, Explorations does not provide food. Please pack enough food for your child to have a full lunch and snacks throughout the day.
Are the activities different in each session?
Yes, the activities are different in every session. Even when the same topics are explored, the projects and activities change. This ensures that each session remains enriching for campers who attend multiple sessions. We also offer a 10% discount for campers registered in multiple sessions.
Explorations has historically provided the opportunity for learners from low-income families to participate through subsidized scholarships. Students are identified by pedagogical constultants from the EMSB, and these exceptional young scholars elevate our classes with unique contributions.
Due to budget cuts from the provincial government, over 30 children in our community may miss out on a summer filled with learning, joy, and connection.
