Summer Camp for Ages 12-15

For our oldest campers, summer is the time to pursue real passions. We respect your experience, and our pro instructors are ready to help you reach the next level.

Our Summer Camps run in two different types of sessions:

  • Camp in July is quite large and takes place at Kells Academy Elementary and Grade 12, where we offer a huge variety of activities in each session. Campers aged 12-15 choose the 3 activities that they find most exciting. These sessions are two weeks each, to provide signifcant depth of learning in all 3 activities that they choose.
  • Camps in June and August are much smaller. The Early Camp in June includes a variety of Arts, Technology, and Nature workshops. Our Camps in August focus on specific topics, which are explored through multidisciplinary projects. Click here to jump to June & August.

Camp in July - Choose your own activities!

Explorations offers activities that campers won’t find anywhere else. With epic equipment and resources, campers can explore their personal interests to the max. Learn to make whatever you love: create your own clothes, food, movies, or video games!

Activities are led by experienced educators, and focus on giving campers the equipment and expert guidance to work on projects bigger than they imagined, while learning and honing the skills required.

For the registration, activities are organized into offerings spread across 3 periods. In every period, there are options for fine arts, science and tech, sports, and more! You can choose how much time to spend with any one type of activity, achieving a balanced variety or totally focusing on favorite subjects.

The second Friday of each session is dedicated to showcasing projects, a time when campers get to shine and show their parents and peers how far they’ve come in two weeks.

Uniquely for the Senior Campers
After your selected activities are confirmed, you will be sent another registration form to outline your previous experience and desires for your summer projects. This information will be shared with the instructors, so you will not have to sit through unncessary explanations of things that you already know — you can jump straight into your dream projects!

The camper’s day is divided into separate periods for the three activities, punctuated by recreation and social time.

Camp in June and August

In June and August, we offer smaller one-week sessions of summer activities for ages 7+ at the Learning Lab (6591 Somerled).

Our week of Early Camp provides unique workshops on each day, offering a variety of our most popular Arts & Technology activities:

  • June 29: Video Game Design
  • June 30: Animation
  • July 1: Photography & Digital Music Composition
  • July 2: Improv Theatre & Sketch Comedy
  • July 3: Moviemaking

The August sessions focus on specific topics, allowing campers to explore one subject in depth and create impressive projects.

These projects are multidisciplinary, and each day’s lessons focus on different aspects of the project. For example, a Video Game project involves designing characters and their story (language arts), as well as creating the characters’ worlds (visual arts), in addition to coding the logical processes for the game (technology).

All of these projects include great freedom of choice: a camper could make a video game that is about anything, from meeting magical faeries, to finding a lost cat, to slaying an epic dragon!

Campers take breaks from their projects for physical activity and social time, including daily trips to local parks (Benny and Confederation).

Price & Schedule - June/August

Explorations has historically provided the opportunity for learners from low-income families to participate through subsidized scholarships. Students are identified by pedagogical constultants from the EMSB, and these exceptional young scholars elevate our classes with unique contributions.

Due to budget cuts from the provincial government, over 30 children in our community may miss out on a summer filled with learning, joy, and connection.
