Camp in July

We help children become lifelong learners by getting them hooked on a big idea: that Learning is Fun! Our Junior Program is a stepping stone for young campers to enter the world of learning through play, and experimentation, and creation.

For many of our campers, this is their first time coming to camp, so our Junior Activity Leaders are particularly attuned to the needs of our little ones. They know how to provide a structured, safe environment, and gentle guidance. All of our groups are led by a qualified teachers (some have decades of experience teaching kindergarteners!) and they are aided by our highly trained Counsellors. Combined, they average a 4-to-1 ratio of learners-to-supervisors.

Junior campers learn with different specialists throughout each day. For example, they might do music with one instructor, robotics with another instructor, and arts with a third instructor. To maintain consistency and comfort, your child will be with the same Counsellors all day, every day. This combination allows us to provide exceptionally high quality activities, while providing the familiarity of a friendly supervisor who is always there to keep them feeling safe and happy.

Each year, the Junior program is organized around a fun theme. Previous years’ themes include Outer Space, Ancient Egypt, Safari, Life in the Ocean, and many more. Throughout the two weeks, campers participate in multidisciplinary activities touching on arts, science, tech, music, nature, and sports. These activities are designed to broaden their knowledge the world, develop their capacities, and give them genuinely enjoyable learning opportunities. Campers also play educational games with words and numbers, to help them develop core literacy and numeracy skills, and to help them associate these skills with fun!

Daily Schedule

The Junior Campers’ day is divided into periods focused on different hands-on projects. Variety and engagement are key: our campers learn by doing new things, getting creative with new ideas.

Throughout each day, campers do a lot of activities that keep them moving while they are learning and having fun. We also go outside daily for adventures in nearby parks and splashpads, to help develop their bodies as well as their minds.

You can see a sample of the schedule for one group, based on 2025. The actual timing of each period may vary depending on your child’s group (for example, the science period might actually be in the afternoon for your child).

Explorations has historically provided the opportunity for learners from low-income families to participate through subsidized scholarships. Students are identified by pedagogical constultants from the EMSB, and these exceptional young scholars elevate our classes with unique contributions.

Due to budget cuts from the provincial government, over 30 children in our community may miss out on a summer filled with learning, joy, and connection.
