Science Literacy Week with Kids Code Jeunesse

Dear Explorations Community,

On Sunday, September 23rd, special guest The Honourable Marc Garneau, Minister of Transport and Canada’s first astronaut will join children at the Montreal Benny Library, in his riding of Notre-Dame-de-Grâce-Westmount, for to share his experiences as an astronaut and to take part in a Q&A, along with a representative from the Canadian Space Agency (CSA).

Canada has a lot to celebrate related to space exploration. In December 2018, Canadian astronaut David Saint-Jacques will be heading up to the International Space Station to conduct a series of scientific experiments, robotics tasks, and test new technologies. And, starting in November 2018, KCJ and the CSA will be inviting children from across Canada to participate in Astro Pi, an international event where kids will code a message (in Python with the Raspberry Pi) and send it up to the International Space Station – while David Saint-Jacques is in space!

KCJ is proud to be part of Science Literacy Week, a week-long celebration of science-based activities that highlight our outstanding scientists and science communicators from coast-to-coast-to-coast. From September 17 to 23, this spectacular nationwide festival will showcase the excellence and diversity of Canadian science to show just how exciting science can be! KCJ ’s Code Create & Celebrate Space! workshops are funded by Microsoft, NSERC and the CSA. You can learn more about all the events here.
