During these unpredictable times, we must stand together to support each other. It is a chance for people around the world to stand together in unity.
Last week, Explorations received a donation of 1,500 masks from Wu Ruikan’s family in China. Wu Ruikan (Anna) is one of our learners who joined us last summer during our Programme Panorama. Thanks to this program, Anna visited Canada for the first time!
Having lived through the lockdown in China and reading the needs of personal protection equipment in Canada in March, Anna wanted to help the city she had fallen in love with. Her family reached out to Explorations to donate two boxes of masks to help those affected in the city of Montreal.
Thanks to Anna’s family’s generous donation, Explorations could lend a helping hand to organizations that help some of Montreal’s most vulnerable, the Native Women’s Shelter of Montreal and L’Alliance.
The Native Women’s Shelter of Montreal is the only women’s shelter in the city that provides services exclusively to Aboriginal women and their children. They offer accommodation, outreach services, family care programs, addiction programs and meals to homeless Métis, Inuit and First Nations women. They also have the Iskweu Project, which provides assistance to families and loved ones in the case of an Indigenous woman or girl (trans, two-spirit) goes missing.
L’Alliance is a second-stage hosting service for women and children victims of domestic violence. With a provincial network of twenty-two homes in twelve regions, L’Alliance provides safe spaces for a total of 461 individuals in danger of violence post-separation. Their campaign “Voisinage contre la violence conjugale et familiale” raises awareness about domestic and family violence incidents that may increase during the COVID-19 pandemic isolation measures.
Explorations is also currently working with these organizations to provide free educational programs, including donating lessons and materials to the families in need in these shelters. At Explorations, we believe in equity in education and want to give everyone a chance to continue learning.
Thank you to Anna and her family for their generous donation of masks. Thanks to their help, we could extend a helping hand to our community. If you are interested in donating, please contact ranaliu@explorationslearning.com
We also want to thank all the coronavirus helpers. Thank you to doctors, nurses, health care workers and first responders. Thank you to farmers, mail carriers, grocery store employees, pharmacists, factory workers, delivery drivers, civil service employees, journalists – anyone working to keep us safe, healthy, informed and as close to our normal lives as possible.
Thank you.
From our family here at Explorations, to yours, stay safe and healthy, because “Ça va bien aller” 🌈
