COURSE DESCRIPTION

Design, Create, Build (DCB) is an engineering activity that focuses on providing children with opportunities to solve problems using various materials and tools. In DCB, learners are encouraged to test designs and find ways to improve them.

Design, Create, Build – Forces is all about physics and forces. Learners will work together to overcome challenges and learn how forces affect systems. They will learn how to accurately plan a design, build a prototype and test it.

Although learners are encouraged to build their own prototypes, they are free to work together with others to create joint projects. Whether they choose to work alone or together, they will quickly discover the value and importance of sharing ideas and insights with fellow designers.

PROPOSED PROJECTS AND ACTIVITIES

Explorations courses and activities are always designed with the learner in mind. In order to retain the flexibility that helps us ensure that all participants are challenged and engaged, we do not announce projects/activities prior to meeting our groups. The following is a list of potential activities:

  • Wooden catapults and/or trebuchets
  • Balsa wood gliders
  • Hot air ballons
  • Racing cars

WHO IS THIS COURSE DESIGNED FOR?

Design, Create, Build is designed for children who love to create new things and who enjoy building solutions to problems. This activity is all about challenging ourselves so participants should feel at ease with  not always succeeding on their first try.

Avi joined the Explorations team in the summer of 2019. He took over our popular Design, Create, Build Activity with great success. Having recently graduated from McGill, Avi is a dynamic, insightful educator who quickly connects with others.
